Universal Becoming "Villains"?

|

We've seen plenty of superhero movies, but what about one actually centering around a bad guy? Well that's finally coming to fruition as Universal has scooped up the rights to an upcoming Viper Comics graphic novel titled "Villains". The graphic novel, by Adam Cogan and Ryan Cody, puts super bad guys center stage. The plot, told from the baddies' perspective, follows a young man who is failing at life and finds purpose when he meets a Svengali-style villain who takes him under his wing. Universal paid mid six figures for the movie rights and have tapped Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland (their currently working on "Wonder Woman for Warner Bros.") to pen the adaptation. Sean Bailey is producing via his Idealogy banner.

The graphic novel hasn't even been released yet, so I really can't give any thoughts other then I hope its good!!

Mark Millar's Idea for a Godfather-like Superman Epic

|

In early September, comic book writer, Mark Millar, stated that he was working with a big time movie director to pitch his Superman idea to Warner Brothers. The idea consists of an 8-hour saga which will be split into 3 films and released a year apart from each other similar to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Millar stated, "It's gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him...I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."
There hasn't been any word on whether or not Warner Bros will accept the idea. Cerebronews will definitely keep you posted on this story. Until then, head over to firstshowing for more info on Mark Millar's epic idea.

Honestly, this idea sounds freakin amazing. If they can do the story right, and allow Superman to actually fight in the movie instead of having major action scenes centered around shoulder pressing a mountain of kryptonite (Superman Returns= ridiculous), this may indeed become the Godfather of superhero movies. Its going to be very hard to contend with a movie like The Dark Knight though. Lets hope that Warner Bros will accept the idea.
