EA Cans Tiberium For Not Meeting Expectations

|

A few months ago, it was said that EA's Command-and-Conquer shooter,
Tiberium, would be pushed back to 2010. Today, it has been confirmed that the game has now been scrapped by EA. Kotaku actually received the staff memo given to the people working on the game that explained why the project was being shut down. In summary, it stated that EA was trying to raise the bar when it came to quality.
I believe that Tiberium wasn't becoming the type of quality game that EA is used to pumping out to its consumers. For the full article and staff memo explaining the reasons behind the cancellation of the game, head over to Kotaku.

Its Official!! Brett Ratner is working on God of War......

|
You know that saying, direct from the horses mouth?

Yeah, UGO has it, exclusively.

They caught up with him recently and confirmed either your greatest dream or biggest fear: Brett Ratner is indeed making a movie based on the video game series, God of War....
Check the video out here.

I guess the rumors have become a reality. All I can ask from him is.....
I beg of you not to ruin the God of War franchise like you did to X-men with X3!!!!

Kirsten Dunst talks Spidey 4 & 5

|

For quite some time now, “Spider-Man” star Kirsten Dunst has had one major condition as to whether or not she’d sign-up for any future sequels of the franchise — that director Sam Raimi and co-star Tobey Maguire be signed on as well.

Well, now that the news has broken that both Raimi and Maguire have signed back on for a fourth and fifth installment – with a hefty paycheck attached as well — MTV News posed the big question to Dunst while she was promoting her upcoming film, “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People” with Simon Pegg. Is she in or is she out?

“I’m in,” said the actress matter of factly. However, when pressed to make the announcement official, Dunst quickly changed her tone, and rather cryptically added, “I’m not saying anything, I know there’s rumors…”
Check out what her current co-star Simon Pegg had to say about it here!

Well its great news that the trio has officially gotten together once again, but is it possible to make Mary Jane sexier!? I'm tired of reading the comic and seeing a sexy vixen only to watch the films and be disappointed with whats on screen. Give her some sex appeal!!

Leaked pics of Friday the 13th remake!

More Force to be Unleashed?

|

LucasArts plans to release new characters and a new single player campaign set in the Jedi Temple as downloadable content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed in coming months, Force Unleashed executive producer Haden Blackman told Kotaku.

The content will be coming to be the 360 and PS3 version of the game. No specific date or prices have yet been set for the downloadable content.

In the coming months Lucas Arts will release a downloadable content pack featuring additional costumes and character models that can be used to play through the single-player campaign. The new models will include Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Kit Fisto.

The skins we decided to release were "based on what we heard from fans," Blackman said. "But some were from us. We thought Ki-Adi-Mundi or Kiit Fisto would be exciting to see running around in our game."

While the new skins simply give you a new way to play through the existing content, the new level will be played out on a beefy new map and includes quite a bit more plot.

Due out later this year, the new single-player mission is set in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice travels to the temple to learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he confronts his inner demons.

Check out the full article here.

I guess thats awesome news for Force Unleashed fans, It just wasn't enjoyable enough for me to go out and buy it. If the content is any good I might give it a second look.

Gamers on an 'Everquest' to get fit!

|

Drop those stereotypes about people who play online role-playing games — chances are they're more physically fit than the average American. That's just one of several new survey findings that explode the popular image of video gamers as socially awkward, overweight teenage males. Or at least, researchers have now found this among players of "EverQuest II", an online fantasy game centered on group quests and other social activities. Check out the full article at msnbc here.

I pride myself on staying physically fit, that's why I'm glad that there are finally statistics out there that show the stereotype of gamers being fat douches who do nothing all day are far from the truth. Most of us have lives!

Game Adaption of Dragonball Movie?

|

Twentieth Century Fox has just appointed a new Senior Vice President of New Media Licensing (Gary Rosenfeld) to oversee and manage video game projects and merchandising. Some of Rosenfield's first plans are to look at potential video game adaptions of Fox films being released such as Dragonball, Avatar, and more.

I can picture an Avatar game being created, but why would I want to see Justin Chatwin as Goku in a DBZ game when i can play the real animated character on the dozens of games that have been coming out in the past few years? For more info on Rosenfield's plans, click here.

Fable 2 co-op to make release after all?

|
The french gaming site Game-Focus.com, present at the Festival du Jeu Vidéo (Video Game Festival) in Paris has reported that the Fable II online co-op mode, expected to be delayed after the game’s launch, will be available on launch date despite the early reports from last week. During a keynote at the event, Lionhead guru Peter Molyneux has denied everything and confirmed (for a second time) that the game will have it’s groundbreaking mode available on Day 1. Check out the source article here.

The game is set for release on October 21, so we'll soon find out on whether the online co-op made it or not.

No Gears 2 churn on PC?

|

Epic games will not be porting Gears of War to the PC. It's "definitely" not happening, swears designer Cliff Bleszinski, pointing to a worsening PC gaming environment. "The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know [BitTorrent] all the elements so they can pirate software," says Bleszinski. "Therefore, high-end video games are suffering very much on the PC." Check out his full Q&A with TVG here.

This is just the perfect example of whats happening to PC gaming due to pirating. If the DRM is too harsh like in Spore people complain and then pirate, but if theres none AT ALL they'll pirate anyway.... You can't win.

World of Warcraft on your PSP?

|
Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has revealed to MTV Multiplayer that the company is considering massively multiplayer online games for the PSP. “I think PSP is something that we’re definitely looking at; 34 million [sold] worldwide really opens your eyes, and their all connected. We started to get very interested in [the PSP] when we switched over from Sony Pictures to Sony Computer Entertainment back in April,” he explained. “And as we’ve kind of got our heads up looking around the world within Sony Computer Entertainment, we’re really starting to see a big push for PSP. We think it’s a world-class device… In the future, we see full MMOs that are designed for the PSP.” Smedley gave the interview following his keynote and panel appearance about the future of MMOGs at the New York Games Conference on Friday. Check out the full article here.

I'm very interested to see how Sony goes about this, because even if they did create a great interface with solid gameplay, Who the hell wants to play an MMO on their PS
P?

Marvel and Paramount to have the Ultimate Alliance?

|

Variety has confirmed that Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have inked a deal for the Melrose studio to distribute Marvel’s next five self-produced films.
The releases covered include: “Iron Man 2” (May 7, 2010), the Kenneth Branagh-helmed “Thor” (July 16, 2010), “The First Avenger: Captain America” (May 6, 2011) and “The Avengers” (July 15, 2011). The distribution agreement also includes an as-yet-announced “Iron Man 3.”
Check out the full article here.

The one I have my eye on the most is the Avengers movie. Sony has the rights to Spider-Man, Fox has the rights to Wolverine and Universal has the rights to The Hulk. I know the other two aren't part of the original Avengers but it would be cool to see them all in a film together nonetheless.

New Resistance 2 Footage

When you get a chance, head over to Gamersyde for some exclusive Resistance 2 footage.

The game is looking really good right now. I will definitely be picking this one up for my ps3 collection.

300's Zack Snyder: From Movie Director to Video Game Producer

|
The director of the 300 has just signed a deal with EA to produce 3 original video games. EA will retain full ownership of the properties developed with Snyder, but will work with him and his production company Cruel & Unusual Films to potentially adapt some or all of the games as movies. Check out the full article at Variety here.

With the 300's cinematography looking so similar to a video game, I am sure Snyder can pull this off. Cerebronews will definitely keep you posted on this story when new info arrives.
For right now though, lets hope Snyder can do the graphic novel The Watchmen justice for its theatrical release.

A Director finally set to wield Thors hammer?

|

Variety has reported that Kenneth Branagh is negotiating to direct "Thor," the next Marvel Comics property that will be turned into a live-action film by Marvel Studios. Its set for release in 2010. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige's choice of Branagh is surprising, as Branagh hasn't really directed an action-heavy film since his debut on "Henry V," a bloody telling of the British king's conquest of France. Branagh is the latest in a string of directors -- such as Jon Favreau ("Iron Man"), Christopher Nolan (the Batman franchise) and Gavin Hood ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") -- with arthouse roots taking on big-budget comicbook fare. Check out the full article here.

Wow this is interesting news as
Branagh is relatively unknown outside the arthouse crowd. Then again so was Jon Favreau. If you've ever seen any of his films like Hamlet or Henry V you'd know hes a very talented filmmaker. I just hope that he can do this type of material justice.

Is there a Halo 3 expansion in the works?

|

If you guys didn't know, there has been a countdown going on at bungie.net. The countdown finally ended a few days ago, and a mysterious video teaser appeared. The teaser showed what looked to be a fleet of alien ships crash landing on earth while destroying buildings in their path. At the end of the teaser, the Halo 3 insignia appeared. There is still no concrete evidence on what this teaser means. Maybe a Halo 3 expansion pack?? I donno... what do you guys think? To check it out at Kotaku click here.

New Nintendo DS being released?

|

Kotaku says that according to a report from Nikkei Net, Nintendo will introduce a new iteration of the Nintendo DS later this year, featuring a built-in camera and music playback. The new version of the DS is also reported to have improved wireless functions. Some versions of the report indicate the improved wireless capabilities will allow the new DS to connect to "information terminals," expanding the machine's non-gaming features.
Check out the full article here.

Wow with the recent news of Sony releasing 'another' slightly upgraded model of the PSP, this seems so much more exiting in comparison due to the major features being added on. I haven't been gaming on my handhelds at all recently so this definitely has me looking out for what this new DS is going to be like.

Master Chief's mission may not be complete after all...

|
Rumor has it that a next gen Halo game is being created as we speak. According to Eurogamer Microsoft is looking for talent to join its Halo Studio and build "an engine that will power future experiences for the next generation of gaming platforms". That Halo Studio will presumably be the one behind the mysterious Peter Jackson projects, which we expect to be a trilogy of episodic games based on Master Chief and friends.
Check out the full article here.

Wait a minute though, didn't Xbox 360 come out like yesterday?? Lets hope a next generation "Xbox 720" is far into the distant future. I dont feel like dishing out for another system anytime soon, and besides the 360 still has a lot of fight left in it. This new Halo game does seem intriguing though and along with Bungies other Halo game we'll have to keep our eyes on it.

What Now ...a Venom Spin-off??

|

So almost everyone and their mommas were pissed at how Venom was portrayed in Spider-man 3. In efforts to alleviate this debacle, Sony's Colombia Pictures is now planning to create a Venom spin-off. With the tremendous success of sinister villains in movies nowadays , Sony believes a Venom film can be "The Dark Knight" of the Spider-man franchise. One thing is for certain they are definitely not certain on Topher Grace reprising the role as Venom. Todd McFarlane, who is one of the creators of the Marvel villain, doesn't think a Venom movie could do well with a villain as the central character. Sony in the meanwhile has hired a pair of screenwriters to start work on the film itself.
Check out the full article here.

To be honest with you guys, im kinda doubting this one. I have more faith in the Wolverine spin-off due to his very detailed back story. Let's be honest, can you picture Venom in a film with no Spider-man around? Lets hope Sony is not making a huge mistake here.

Miracle at. St. Anna: Editing would have been its Savior

|

Lets get straight to the point, Miracle at St. Anna is a disappointment in every sense of the word. Spike Lee whos usually brilliant creates a film thats constantly trying to find its identity and ends up not knowing what type of film it really is. Now its not horrible, but its also not great and thats a big problem when your dealing with some powerful subject matter that had so much potential.

The problems lie with the disjointed nature of the narrative itself, it never seems focused and it jumps around constantly. Your left wondering why certain characters made the decisions they made, without getting a clear answer or without anything ever being explained. More then a few characters don't feel believable and others fall into racial sterotypes. Now this all could have been slightly more bearable had the movie not been 160 minutes long, not to mention theres a major "supernatural" element that seems borderline ridiculous.

Not everything is negative though, There are times when Lee creates a scene thats so moving, you can't help but think what this film could have been like had he not given into all his excesses. There are specific moments with the soldiers dealing with the racial tensions back at home to combat scenes where he shows that the aftermath of battle makes for just as powerful an image as the battle itself.
Those are the times where he truly feels at home in the Directors chair and they make you wish that there was less pointless dialogue throughout because it impacts the emotional power of those scenes.

When it comes down to it Miracle at St. Anna is a film of wasted potential.
It was meant to be 2 hours but ended up in a 3 hour shell.
I can't say its a bad film because its not, but you truly feel robbed of something that had greatness within its grasp.

Brand New Curious Case of Benjamin Button Trailer!

|

This could finally be the film that wins Brad Pitt the Oscar.

What do you think?

The Brand New Spirit Trailer!

|

The new trailer is a vast improvement over the last one.
I have some doubts about it still seeming a bit goofy but I think Frank Miller will be able to deliver the goods with the final film.

"Somebody get me a tie, and it sure as hell better be red!"

Fable 2 going gold at 90% completion??

|

Once again, business deadlines rush game developers to put out games when their not even finished. A majority of the time, this leads to potentially great games only being good.....
(anybody remember Fable 1?).
With Fable 2's case, the "only" thing that's missing right now is its supposed online co-op component. Its said that this feature of the game will be added via Xbox Live download shortly after the game's release. For more information, click here

Let's hope that game developers are not trying to keep quiet about any other features of the game that had to be cut out due to time constraints. I understand that from a business standpoint games need to come out in a timely manner, but as a consumer I'd rather wait for a great game than get a decent rushed game any day.

Duke Nukem Forever screens

The most delayed game in history (since 1997!!!) has finally shown some progress in its production. Check out these new screens from Duke4.net
The game may be coming out for real this time after all...

Vin Diesel back to doing XXX?

|

Variety has reported that Columbia Pictures is in discussions with producer Joe Roth for a new version of "XXX," one that would bring back Vin Diesel as star and Rob Cohen as director.
The duo teamed up on the 2002 original, which starred Diesel as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission.
The third incarnation has a title, "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," but no script.
Diesel has agreed to return and so has Cohen, but talent deals won’t be worked out until the studio pact is made.
Check out the full article here.

Honestly who the hell is begging for another movie from the XXX franchise? The first one was decent, amounting to nothing more then a James Bond clone with an extreme sports coating and the second? Well lets just say the less thats said about it the better....
An interesting note is that on the DVD of the second movie there was an extra scene showing the Xander Cage character dieing, how do you bring back a dead guy?

EAGLE EYE: FAR FROM 20/20 VISION

|

Young star Shia LaBeouf has once again teamed up with Disturbia director D.J. Caruso; this time to make a film about what happens when advanced technology goes wrong. Unfortunately, technology isn’t the only thing that can be associated with “going wrong” in the film. Overall, Eagle Eye lacks the ability to deliver something unique and fresh to its audience.

Before I begin to scrutinize the movie, I do have to bring up some of its positives. Although the dialogue is at times corny, the film has a pretty good cast. Shia LaBeouf, Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson, and the others for the most part do the best they can with a less than par script. On top of this, the film is filled with tons of action and special effects to satisfy the “popcorn summer movie” qualifications.

Being a special effects extravaganza does not save the movie from its lack of substance though. The film feels as though it is trying to cash in on previous movie concepts. Ironically, two Will Smith movies pop in my mind when I think about Eagle Eye. If you can picture in your head some way to merge I Robot and Enemy of the State together, you pretty much have the shell of Eagle Eye. The merging of those two movies sounds like an incredible idea, but Caruso unfortunately disappoints.

Overall the movie is decent, but its not worth spending $9.50 for. It could definitely be a good dollar movie or rental viewing though.

Spore+Starcraft=Sporecraft!

Everyone knows that Spore gives you an astonishing amount of freedom with what you can create in the game itself, but create the entire Terran faction from Starcraft?! Now that is just absolutely incredible!
The Koreans have again shown how much they LOVE Starcraft!

'War' What is it good for?

|

Variety has confirmed that Sony has picked up Mark Millar's comicbook "War Heroes" for Michael DeLuca to produce.
Several studios had been vying for the six-part property, which began publishing in June through Image Comics.
Check out the full article here.

Mark Millar is a legend in the comic book world lets just hope Sony can do with War Heroes what Universal did with Wanted.

New Valkyrie Trailer

|

The movie Valkyrie has all the elements of success with a critically acclaimed director and one of the biggest movie stars on the planet in Tom Cruise, so whats the problem?
Honestly I can't quite put my finger on it but it might have to do with the fact that it takes place in Nazi Germany and all the Germans speak English!!
Talk about throwing realism out the window!! But seriously we all know its been getting a bum rap for absolutely nothing other then Tom Cruise being a psychotic scientologist.
I say give it a chance, if the trailer is any indication it might actually turn out to be a pretty good film.

Will Smith to become Legend at the Box Office again?

|

Variety has confirmed that Warner Bros. has set in motion a prequel to the Will Smith starrer I Am Legend. Smith is planned to return as scientist Robert Neville with Francis Lawrence returning to direct. The prequel will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city. Check out the full article here.

I Am Legend was a great movie that had borderline terrible CGI. The infected were not well represented in the film at all, they seemed unfinished. My hope is that Warner Bros. and Francis Lawrence wise up and find a better substitution then going full blown CGI to represent the infected for the prequel.

Caribbean franchise proves to have some Depp

|

Variety has confirmed that Johny Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean pic and play Tonto in the bigscreen adaptation of The Lone Ranger, both being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland.
The roles come after Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the Pirates franchise, also produced by Bruckheimer.

Alice in Wonderland sceduled for 2010, will be shot using 3-D and performance capture technology similar to that used for "Beowulf."
check out the full article here.

Lets hope this next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is more of a prequel then true sequel to the franchise. I'm actually more exited to see Tim Burtons take on Alice in Wonderland, "especially" given the source material hes going to be tinkering with.

A Marvel Amongst Fighting Games

|

Diehard fighting game fans may remember a little old game known as Marvel vs Capcom 2, wait let me correct myself... OF COURSE die hard fans remember it and they probably still play it to this day. It is the Dreamcast and arcade title many consider the epitome of the 2D fighting game golden age.

Well with great anticipation, Capcom is bringing the near flawless formula back with its new game for the Wii. They are teaming up with anime studio Tatsunoko (known for shows such as Speed Racer and Robotech) to create a crossover fighter entitled Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Cross Generation of Fighters. Fortunately, the game seems to have a tag-team battle system similar to the beloved Marvel vs. Capcom series.

The bad news I have to report to you is that according to www.nintendowiifanboy.com the game most likely will not hit U.S. shores at all. This is a sad thing to hear, being that that this could be the closest to a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ever coming to existence.

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel more excited about this game than the 3D-like Street Fighter 4 coming to America this fall. Let’s cross our fingers that this new Capcom crossover title can some how get on American grounds. For right now, check out this sick screen shot above.

Green Hornet on the hustle?

|
Stephen Chow the director and star of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer is
onboard to direct and star opposite Seth Rogen as Kato in Columbia Pictures The Green Hornet which is set for release June 25th 2010.
Of the opportunity Chow said:
"I'm excited to be taking on 'The Green Hornet' -- obviously, I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true. I'm grateful to my friends at Sony, who have shown so much faith in me for so many years. I'm looking forward to working with Seth, Evan, Neal, and the team at Sony, and I'm eager to get started."
Check out the full article at superherohype here.

Sony really outdid themselves with this one, I think this is an absolutely phenomenal choice as Kung Fu Hustle is one of my favorite martial arts movies of all time. Stephen Chow has proven himself as a very capable filmmaker and when you add Seth Rogen into the mix your looking at a potential action/comedy classic.

Is Mass Effect making a trip to the silver screen?

|

Variety is reporting that numerous sources have confirmed producer Avi Arad (Spider-Man franchise, Iron Man) has optioned the rights to turn Mass Effect into a feature film. If you don't know what Mass Effect is, its a video game that was released last year by Electronic Arts to much critical acclaim.

It'll be interesting to see what route they take with the main character as the game gave you a choice of either playing as a male or female. Honestly there are no great video game to film adaptions to compare it too, so either it breaks the trend or becomes just another game-film disappointment.

Is Edward Norton willing to Hulk out in the Avengers?

|

Edward Norton star of The Incredible Hulk is unsure about his future with Marvel.
“The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque,” Norton said
“I won’t say [they're] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do.”
Check out the full excerpt where he also talks about The Avengers here.

I actually thought he played a great Bruce Banner so I'm crossing my fingers
that he returns for any future installments!!

Tobey Maguire spins $50 Million Dollar Web

|

If you haven't heard the news Spider-Man 4 and 5 might be shooting back-to-back next year over the course of 6 months. All the hoopla around Tobey Maguire not returning seems to ring false as hes close to signing a contract worth $50 million in salary with profit shares!!
Did I mention he also has a clause in his contract that demands that he get time off every day to spend time
with his 22 month old daughter? Check out the full article here.

If their bringing back Tobey Maguire lets hope they bring back some form of Harry Osbourne/New Goblin (James Franco).
I'm willing to forget the entire debacle that was Spider-Man 3 ever happened.
