DS meet the DSi!

The rumors have finally become a reality as Nintendos fall press conference which was held today brought the announcement of the new DS to the forefront. The new DS will be called the DSi and will carry such features as

  • Being slightly thinner
  • Screens are now 17% larger (3.25 inches)
  • Audio enhancements
  • .3 Megapixel (640x480) Camera
  • SD Memory Card slot (Sweet!)
  • Built in Web Browser
It's possible to take pictures with the DSi and then view them on the Wii. The DSis expanded web capabilites combined with the SD Memory Card allows you to download games and keep them on the handheld. For digital delivery purchases, there is a DSi Shop, from which users can download DSiWare from. Pricing categories for the DSiWare are: Free, 200 points, 500 points and "Premium" which is 800 points. Customers will get 1000 free points to spend at the DSi Shop that are good until March 2010.
It's releasing in Japan on November 1st in two colors, white and black.
The system will retail for ¥18,900 (USD$180)

FEATURE REMOVED:
The Nintendo DS-i will not feature compatibility with Game Boy Advance games due to the lack of a GBA cartridge slot.

Great article, I'm definitely going to buy the new DSi. I just wish they had upgraded the hardware inside to compete with the PSP. Maybe next time....
